PEORIA, Ill. – A man charged in connection to one of two homicides from the past weekend in Peoria was ordered to remain in jail.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says a petition to detain Javier McGhee, 21, was granted at a pre-trial detention hearing on Wednesday.
McGhee is accused in the shooting death of Trashawn Morris, 27, at the Lexington Hills Apartment complex at around 10:15 P.M. Saturday. The death was one of two homicides in the complex, occurring hours apart. Josef Viel, 61, is charged with First Degree Murder in the stabbing death of his girlfriend, Tonya Fuller, 58, early Sunday morning.
McGhee is also charged with Aggravated Battery.
Prosecutors say Peoria Police found two adult males with gunshot wounds, one with a graze wound to his back, and the other was Morris, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
McGhee was identified as the alleged shooter.
He is due back in court on May 2nd in an arraignment hearing.
