UPDATED 4:10 P.M.
PEORIA, Ill. – An alleged false report of a person being shot led to an arrest in Peoria on Wednesday morning.
Peoria Police say a call came in just before 10:30 A.M. on that report of a person shot in the area of University and Gift.
Officers arrived to find a male, later identified as 32-year-old Geno Carter, running from a vehicle in the area.
Carter reportedly attempted to hide in the backyard of a residence in the area of University and Virginia, but was found by officers. He also allegedly threatened to shoot officers.
Carter surrendered to police after about 25 minutes of negotiations, and was taken into custody. The negotiations closed roads in the area for around a half hour.
Police did not find a weapon, and it was later learned the call of a person shot, called in by Carter, was reportedly false.
Carter was arrested on charges of Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, Disorderly Conduct of False Police Report, Resisting Police, Fleeing and Eluding, Reckless Driving, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, along with several other traffic violations from a separate incident.
He was taken to the Peoria County Jail.

PEORIA, Ill. – Roads in the area of University and Virginia are open again after a heavy police presence Wednesday morning.
A Peoria Police spokeswoman says officers were responding to a hit and run when they received reports of a person with a gun in the area.
They made contact with an adult male who refused to come out of a house, but was convinced by negotiators to exit and was taken into custody.
There’s no word on the age of the male, or if he was a suspect in the hit and run.
Police say several roads in the area were closed off because of an alleged threat of a suspect with a weapon.
