PEORIA, Ill. – Spring is a busy time for Peoria Public Works.
The reconstruction of Glen Avenue, a 2-year project costing $10.5 million, has entered a new phase.
Public Works’ Nick McMillion says much of Glen’s surface has reached the end of its lifespan.
“With this project, not only is Glen going to get new pavement, it’s going to get new curbs and gutters, storm sewer improvements and also updated pedestrian accommodations,” McMillion says.
The first stretch of Glen’s reconstruction was completed last year from Dawn to War Memorial. Now, work is being done from Dawn to University.
Like last year, traffic in that area of Glen has some “head-to-head” configuration, with one side shut down for construction.
“The stoplight at Glen Park Place, that light right before the project starts, we put in an “all-flash” so it would basically become a four-way stop or a three-way stop in that area. And now, if you’re going eastbound on Glen, there is a stop sign, while the other signals remain in flash,” McMillion says.
Other road projects going on this spring in Peoria include sidewalk replacement on Water Street, starting April 1st, and the beginning of the Adams/Jefferson one way to two way conversion.
