WASHINGTON, Ill. – A Washington alderman plans to announce on Friday his intentions to run for mayor, while current Mayor Gary Manier is still undecided whether he wants another term.
Mike Brownfield has served 11 years as Ward 1 alderman and is director of facilities services and safety at Snyder Village in Metamora.
Manier has been Washington’s mayor for 23 years and tells 25 News, it’s “pretty early” in the process. Candidates don’t typically start getting signatures on nominating petitions until the fall. The election is next April.
Brownfield says he’s not getting in the race to specifically oppose Manier. He says they’re on the same page on a lot of issues.
Brownfield will make his mayoral plans official at 10 a.m. Friday at Five Points Washington.
